New Bern North Carolina Golf Courses

Golf courses are abundant in and around the city. Many have won acclaim from professionals and amateurs alike, and several courses host a number of large golf tournaments. Resident and visiting duffers are fortunate: Popular courses are easily accessible, and the normally mild climate allows for year-round play.

Some of the excellent quality and designed courses have hosted a number of large golf tournaments, including the Curtis Strange Shriner Classic, usually held the last week in September at The Emerald golf club in Greenbrier. There are several inter-club organizations for residents players (both men and women of all handicaps) who enjoy monthly tournaments, lunches and gatherings at different clubs.

This club has two regulation eighteen hole courses. The terrain on the fairways is crowned, and the small greens are undulating. A difficult hole is #3, a 517-yard, par 5, featuring a sharp dogleg right fairway with water sitting at the turn. Players can attempt to hit the green in two, but if they come up short they'll hear a splash. The Harbour Point Golf Links Course offers small greens and tight fairways. The course was designed to play alongside Broad Creek, and water hazards (six ponds) come into play on seven holes. The fairways are tree lined and very flat because there are no changes in elevation. The wind is sometimes a factor in the late afternoons. Every green is protected by strategically-placed sand bunkers. The most difficult hole is probably #11, a 493-yard, par 5, featuring a narrow landing area with water on the left.
